The adorable blog award!

Dear Oct
gave me the Adorable Blog award!!! I'm sure that if you read my blog, you have heard of Octracia before, but if you haven't, she is basically a weight loss warrior who not only blogs about her daily meals, but she even includes photos of her meals as well. She is also adorable, so if she is calling me adorable it's a big deal :)

To get on with it, I'm supposed to share ten things about myself that ya'll don't already know.

1. I'm a Cancer, through and through. I feel most at home when in the water and I also have a tendency to slip into my crabby shell.

2. I graduated from college on my birthday. Yep, it was my 25th birthday and I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing. Minor? Political Science

3. I'm part Native American. Not many of us even exist these days, so I think it's pretty awesome that I'm almost a quarter Indian.

4. I threw the discus in high school. Yeah, I had the best "release" on the girls' track team, which meant that I threw that sucker with a pretty steady hand.

5. I love coffee. As in, I usually make more than one pot-per-day. Oh, and I've never been to Starbucks either!!!

6. I'm the middle child of seven kids. (Two girls, five boys).

7. I love the smell of fresh grass.

8. My favorite color changes on a daily basis.

9. I have a container garden! It's super-big for how early in the season it is and it's around 33 containers plants right now. We have red peppers, green peppers, yellow squash, zucchini, cabbage, broccoli and beefsteak tomatoes, plus parsley.

10. It's been four months since I asked my now-live-in girlfriend to be my weight loss buddy. Now look at how cute we are!

Now, I would like to pass this award onto....

That is over seventy pounds down from my highest weight of 306.4!!! I really can't believe that I have been able to lose seventy pounds "on my own." When I was over three hundred pounds, I didn't know that I could even lose twenty pounds, let alone fifty more than that! I was barely able to get through daily tasks with little energy I'm really just astounded that I used to carry around seventy more pounds than I do now.

The gf has been a huge support for me and she makes really good low carb fare, too. When I first met her, she must have hustled me because she told me that she did not know how to cook, but trust me, the girl can cook! She is too humble because she gives most of the credit to Linda Sue! She has gone from the 286 to 225 herself!

Back on May 11, when I had my first consultation for knee surgery, I was in the 250's at the doctor's office, so I'm so happy that I will be in the 230's for my next appointment. I want my surgeon to be a little shocked when he sees what a weight loss warrior I am. :) My knee pain has been a good reminder of my goals and also a good reminder than I want to get the shit fixed!

I'm just glad that I purchased health insurance three years ago (since I'm self-employed, I went a while without any), and that I'm very happy with the level of experience and expertise this surgeon has. Plus, he is local! However, knee surgery is freaking me out. I meet with my surgeon next Wednesday.

We took the dogs to Grand Mere State Park, which was amazing! It was not even a full hour away. There was about a half mile of a paved trail then about a quarter of a mile of sand dunes, which was very exhausting. Good thing my 50 pound English setter was there to pull me up the dunes and I'm not even joking. We have been working with her to get her NOT to lead when she goes for walks, but desperate times call for desperate measures. She had an absolute ball! My gf kept joking that next time, my heavy ass purse stays in the car or at home because with our drinks, the dogs water and bowl, my purse and the picnic, it was quite a heavy duffle bag for her sling up those huge sand dunes (I'm guessing). The view was so amazing and we had a great workout. Oh yeah, and in case you are wondering, pugs can definitely swim. It was the cutest low carb date ever and we even got some exercise in!

I moved and low carb menu

All moved into the new apartment! It took one jam-packed u-haul, one brother, one girlfriend, a friend of the family, two extra vehicles and lots of willing spirits for the move to take place, but now that I'm here, I feel like I'm right where I'm supposed to be, which is a great feeling.

It's actually a sweet space with a deck with a privacy fence which is perfect for the huge container garden I have growing, an eat-in dining room, a huge living room with vaulted ceilings, a full basement with a washer and dryer included, plus I got to bring Daisy (the English Settter) and my sweetie Angie got to bring Marvie (the pug). Plus, it's on the first floor and everything is on one level, except for the washer and dryer. It just seems super-big for an apartment. It's right off the highway, but also right near the water preserve, which makes it just so nice and green around here, while still being moments away from city-life.

I've been on plan with low carb.... which has kept me sane. Angie is also gotten through Atkins Induction (the first 14 days of Atkins) and she has lost over ten pounds so far just on low-carb! She has lost over 50 pounds now total, which makes her a weight loss buddy that is "in this" on top of being my wonderful girlfriend. I think she is making meatloaf today and that sounds very good actually. Everything tastes better when somebody else is cooking for you!

Angie is actually at an interview now (her second one in two days) and she has more lined up for this week, too. The guy from the carpet place yesterday wants her to come in for a few days to see if she is a good fit with the team.

Eating low carb is not always the easiest way to eat, but in my opinion, the benefits of this lifestyle far outweigh the pain-in-the-ass factor.

- Half a burger with hot pepper jack cheese on an oopsie roll with lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo and low carb ketchup
